What should I wear in the hills in winter, like Manali or Shimla?

Thermals as the base, a fleece or sweater in the middle, and a windproof, water-resistant jacket on top, plus a cap, gloves, woollen socks and shoes with good grip for snow and wet roads. Jeans get cold and stiff when wet, so lined trousers or track pants are better for snow days. Bring one warm but nicer layer for photos.
